Fount Church

Our story

Back home to plant a church

Fount is being planted by Dave Cornes, who was born on the Isle of Wight and grew up here. He and Kat live in Newport with their young family.

A welcome from Dave

I was born on the Isle of Wight and grew up here. When I was twenty I left, first for nine months in South Africa and then for nine years in London. I loved those years, but I've long felt a call to serve the Lord on this island, and in the end Kat and I came home to plant a church.

Fount is that church. We're planting in Newport because it sits right in the middle of the island, and we want Fount to reach into every corner of it.

Behind all of it is one conviction. Every person on this island was made for more, and the more they're looking for is Jesus himself. I'd love to see people right across the island come to know him, and to see God do things here that make people stop and ask what's going on.

We want Fount to be a gospel church for every generation, where the Bible is taught faithfully and prayer is the first thing we reach for. None of it is about us. We're here to make Jesus famous, and that means cheering on every other gospel church on the island too.

Our first public Sunday is 7 March 2027. Between now and then, the best thing you can do is pray for us. If you've got questions, or you're on the island and fancy a coffee, I'd love to hear from you.

Accountable from the start

Fount is independent and non-denominational. Planting independently means we need to be more careful about accountability, so it's built in from the beginning.

  • An advisory group

A small group of trusted, experienced church leaders from on and off the island meets regularly with Dave and Kat. They watch over Dave's theology, his character, his marriage and family, and whether the work is sustainable. The group has no formal power over the church. It's there so the person leading is properly looked after and properly held to account.

  • A registered charity

Fount is becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with trustees and proper governance. The application is in, and three people are ready to serve as trustees once it's registered.
